the rest of it

And what were we doing when we weren't walking from the mountains to the river?  Well, first we had to deal with the fact that, despite all A's training and planning, she forgot to bring her hiking shorts to Moab.  (There may have been momentary tears upon that realization.) But Moab Gear Trader to the rescue!

Moody skies

After that blip, we three did a six mile family hike to celebrate our seventeenth move-iversary (year-in-review post coming at some point, I promise) at Amasa Back.  Although it is full-on high season in Moab, we were surprised/grateful to find it not that busy; no 4x4s and only a handful of MTBers.

After that, it was variations on a theme: trail runs (11.01 miles for H) on Pipe Dream, hikes on Pipe Dream, in Millcreek Canyon and in town (14.29 for A and M), and road rides for H and A (184 miles for H, around 120 miles for A).  We actually talked about going MTBing - it's been a couple years, yikes - but ultimately didn't do it because we were tired of driving.

We also did some socializing.  We had beers with our neighbor A a couple of times; she's bought a new-to-her used Transit van, low-key built-out, and has been enjoying exploring in it.  (We are envious.)  We attended a block party on Center Street with a group of local friends.  We had yard beers a couple of times and reacquainted Milton with his nemesis Marshmallow.

Oh lawd he comin'

We went up to the Slickrock trailhead a couple of times for picnic lunches and ended up talking with a number of tourists (notably from Scotland and Canada).  And we of course had drinks at Woody's as it is important to support local small businesses.

"Oh hi"

Although it had been awfully nice weather for most of our time (a little warm even, maybe), that all changed for the last day or so, with our last full day being a complete wash out.  That was okay: we had library books to read and we even made soup!  And when we got back to SLC, it was a rude awakening to have to turn the heat on.
